1) Get in State
Do not skip this step!
Get your blood flowing! Do some jumping jacks! Hate burpees? Me, too! Do 3 of them.
Seriously, Nicole?
Seriously.
When we move our body and our blood starts flowing, our mind actually starts to change. We can think clearer and find happiness more easily.
Think I'm full of B.S.? Do high knees for a minute and tell me that you don't have the mental clarity to come up with 4 extra choice words to say to me.
Move your body for at least one minute before you sit down to start...
2) Write a list
Nicole, you've got to be kidding me! You're telling me that all I need to do is make a freaking list in order to "find my passion"!
Well, yes!
Get out a sheet of paper and write this down at the top:
I get excited when I...
Then set a timer for 30 minutes and write!
Write anything and everything that comes to mind (with zero judgement, by the way).
Here's why the 30 minute timer is important. Your conscious mind is going to be right there in the drivers seat for the first, like, 15 minutes. It's going to think of everything that is "the right answer" or that "you've rehearsed in your head". Aka the things that you started thinking of when you read the above statement "I get excited when".
But this super magical thing happens about 15 minutes in... your unconscious mind gets up and it will waterfall out things that you haven't thought about in years. Some things it says you might have never thought about. I mean, this sh*t's pretty cool.
Write it all down for an entire 30 minutes.
3) Star it. Age it.
After your 30 minutes are up, read through your list. As you read, star any activities that stand out in a positive way. You might start 10, you might start 40, you might star 5. There are no right "star numbers" here.
Then, next to each starred item, write the last time you did this activity.
I've had clients do this exercise and they were like I've NEVER done this or I did this last when I was 2 years old! Great! We are gathering clarity right now for the next step. It's important to see in writing when the last time was we let ourselves do something that made us come alive.
4) Pick one
Of your starred and age defined list of passionate activities, which one makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up? Which one makes your heart beat just a tiny bit (or a lot a bit) faster?
Circle it and plan it into your week.
Yes, this week.
Make space for the thing that makes you come alive! Clearly your body is trying to tell you that it need to follow it!
However, theres a huge caveat with this one.... don't pick the easy one!
You know, the one you've done a million times, you could probably do it in your sleep.
Instead, pick one that is filled with new-ness and excitement and is majorly outside of your comfort zone.
The reason?
If you pick the one that has lost its magic, you will not be filled up with magic. I mean that's pretty obvious right? We like to pick the ones that are familiar because we know we can succeed at it.
So pick that one where there's a good chance you'll fail.
Do this thing. Today, tomorrow, in three days, doesn't matter but do it this week while this exercise is still fresh and you're a little hyped on the whole "follow your dreams" bit.
Maybe you'll buy a target planner this week, who knows!
Talk to you soon,
